2/4/21 Day 39
TODAY'S
DEVOTION: 2/4/21 Day 39
Sometimes
the simplest reflections are the best. More often than not, the most direct
reflections from God’s own words are the most appropriate. On this Good Friday,
as we struggle to comprehend the immeasurability of what Jesus has done for us
by surrendering His life for ours, let these words from Scripture wash over you
in new and fresh ways.
“When
you were stuck in your old sin-dead life, you were incapable of responding to
God. God brought you alive – right along with Christ! Think of it! All sins
forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant canceled and nailed to
Christ’s cross. He stripped all the spiritual tyrants in the universe of their
sham authority at the cross and marched them naked through the streets.” -
Colossians 2:13-15 (The Message)
“He
has forgiven you all your sins: Christ has utterly wiped out all the damning
evidence of broken laws and commandments which always hung over our heads and
has completely annulled it by nailing it over His own head on the cross. And
then, having disarmed all the powers ranged against us, He exposed them –
shattered, empty, and defeated – in His final glorious triumphant act.” -
Colossians 2:13-15 (unique translation)
“There
was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us
to him. He was despised and rejected – a man of sorrows, acquainted with
deepest grief. We turned our backs to him and looked the other way. He was
despised, and we did not care. Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our
sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment
for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins.
He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of
us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s path to follow our own.
Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.” - Isaiah 53:2-6 (New Living
Translation)
“But
God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us.” - Romans 5:8 (New American Standard Bible)
“He
said, ‘It is finished!’ Then he bowed his head and released his spirit.” - John
19:30 (New Living Translation)
Amen.
