25/2/21 Day 8

TODAY'S VERSE: 25/2/21 Day 8

Then Peter began to speak up. “We’ve given up everything to follow you,” he said.

“Yes,” Jesus replied, “and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake and for the Good News, 30 will receive now in return a hundred times as many houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and property—along with persecution. And in the world to come that person will have eternal life. 31 But many who are the greatest now will be least important then, and those who seem least important now will be the greatest then.”They were now on the way up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. The disciples were filled with awe, and the people following behind were overwhelmed with fear. Taking the twelve disciples aside, Jesus once more began to describe everything that was about to happen to him.”

- Mark 10:28-32

TODAY'S DEVOTION:

Jesus does a lot of walking in Mark 10. He begins in Capernaum on the north shore of the Sea of Galilee, travels to the area east of the Jordan River, then down the Jordan valley to Jericho before his Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem in Mark 11.

As you are reading this I am on an airplane with my wife and group of 30 people who will be spending the next 10 days in the Holy Land. This is a bucket list trip for us. We’ll be visiting many of the places Jesus shows up in Mark 10 (as well as other places in the Gospels).

Of course, the life of faith is less about “walking where Jesus walked” and more about “walking as Jesus walked.” I’m challenged by Mark 10:32. “They were now on the way up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them.”

We are all on our way somewhere, the question is whether or not Jesus is in front of us. As we make our way through the season of Lent, and follow Jesus on his way to Jerusalem, what might we need to do to keep Jesus in front of us?  How can we shaping our lives to make sure we are going the way Jesus is going?

TODAY'S PRAYER:

Lord Jesus – you walked along the shores, you walked downs roads, you even walked on water in order to call people to follow you.  Give us eyes to see you are walking with us today.  Give us ears to hear your call to follow you into your way of life.  Give us faith to believe the best life is the life where you are walking ahead of us.  Amen
