6/3/21 Day 16

TODAY'S VERSE: 6/3/21 Day 16

He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed. I Peter 2:24

TODAY'S DEVOTION:

Each year I look forward to our Good Friday Service. The focus is the Seven Last Words spoken by Jesus on the cross. The service includes short meditations, prayers and singing. For me, the highlight comes at the end when the cross is veiled and the hymn “How Deep the Father’s Love For Us” is sung. I am including the words of this hymn as a focus for your meditation and prayer.

“How deep the Father’s love for us, how vast beyond all measure, That He should give His only Son to make a wretch His treasure. How great the pain of searing loss - the Father turns His face away, As wounds which mar the Chosen One bring many sons to glory.

Behold the man upon a cross, my sin upon His shoulders; Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers. It was my sin that held Him there until it was accomplished;

His dying breath has brought me life- I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything, no gifts, no power, no wisdom; But I will boast in Jesus Christ, his death and resurrection. Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer;
But this I know with all my heart - His wounds have paid my ransom.”

TODAY'S PRAYER:

Lord, we ponder the wonder of our Salvation. Our thoughts focus on the cross of Jesus. Help me never to forget or to take for granted, that our salvation is a gift of complete mercy and grace. Amen
