9/3/21 Day 18

TODAY'S VERSE: 9/3/21 Day 18

“I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the put of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God.” – Psalm 40:1-3

TODAY'S DEVOTION:

Waiting… we know Easter is coming right? I mean it has already happened. Almost 2,000 years ago, Jesus died and rose again! That victory changed the course of history. And, yet here we are again, waiting for Easter.

Isn’t it funny how holidays sneak up on us sometimes? Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays, you name it. We know they are coming and yet we always seem to be ill prepared for their arrival.

If you have made it this far with the daily devotions, then hopefully you have had some time for serious reflection. If not, then maybe this will serve as your reminder that it isn’t too late! Lent is supposed to prevent Easter from sneaking up on us. Where are you at with that? Lent is also a time where we remember what God has done for us and that there is nothing, no amount of sin or despair, that can separate us from God. Remembering we are dust on Ash Wednesday reminds us that we are “formed” and in need of a creator who is constantly remaking us in his image.

The Psalmist above talks about the despair and the muddy mire that our lives can become. We can all relate to that! BUT how many of us sit back hoping it will just “get better” without taking our junk to God? He is waiting to set our feet back on solid ground! We just need to take it all to him so that he can give us that NEW SONG to sing! What are you waiting for?

TODAY'S PRAYER:

Dear Lord, remind us this day that we can come to you at any time with anything! Thank you for loving us that much. Give us a new song to sing; a song of HOPE and a song of JOY. Amen.
